THE PROBLEM

The Pays de la Sagouine is a historic recreation of an Acadian settlement in Bouctouche, New Brunswick and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the province.  A 2 km boardwalk provides access to the site and was originally founded on driven pipe piles that were prone to “ice jacking” where the ice accumulation and uplift forces caused tidal action pulls the piles of the ground.

THE SOLUTION

Helical Piles were designed with a sufficient helices to resist these uplift forces and screwed into the ground until they were deeply embedded into good load bearing soil.  The piles were then load tested to ensure that they would withstand the buoyancy forces caused by the ice, and proved them to be ideally suited for pilings in a marine environment.
