Dartmouth General Hospital

Description:

Load augmentation was required for the elevator and stairwell at the Dartmouth General Hospital Redevelopment Project.

Subsurface Conditions:

Subsurface conditions consisted of 4 meters of fill and glacial till over slate bedrock.

AMCON Solution:

Due to low head room and restricted access, an Injection-Bore Micro-Pile (IBO) solution was chosen using the TEI Man-Portable Drill.  The TEI Man‐Portable Drilling Equipment is designed to perform difficult and limited access drilling in the most confined places which can be equipped with either a rotary/percussion top hammer or a rotary down‐the‐hole hammer drill for deep hole applications.

This is a portable system that can be man‐handled and is powered remotely by a hydraulic power pack thus giving off no emissions and is environmentally friendly to use in confined spaces. This drilling system was ideal to install piles deep into competent bedrock while working in the confines of a busy hospital environment.
