Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Shotcrete Shoring

Description:

The expansion to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital required a low clearance excavation shoring system be installed to prevent undermining of an adjacent building.

Subsurface Conditions:

Subsurface conditions consisted of up to 6 meters of variable fill and over weathered sandstone bedrock.

AMCON Solution:

Shotcrete shoring was chosen as earth retaining system due to it providing very low clearance next to the adjacent property and allowed the foundations to be constructed against the shoring system.

Shotcrete shoring is installed using a “top-down” construction technique which involves excavating down in shallow benches; installing tie-back anchors; applying shotcrete in staged sequences to avoid destabilization; and stressing anchors to tie back the shoring wall.
