Hampton Inn Impact® Rammed Aggregate Piers

Description:

Construction of a new 5 story Hampton Inn hotel and conference centre in Deer Lake, Newfoundland and column loads up to 475 kips.

Subsurface Conditions:

Poorly graded sand, very loose to compact, wet up to 10 feet deep. Very soft, wet clay up to 25 feet deep and silty sand with trace gravel up to 100 feet deep.

AMCON Solution:

The Geopier Impact® Ground Improvement System was chosen as an economical alternative to a piling system allowing conventional construction and eliminating the need for a suspended structural slab.  Rammed Aggregate Pier® elements were installed over 2 months to support the roughly 23,500sq.ft building. The Impact Pier elements were installed up to 36 feet deep.
